Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal
Image result for armor of godThe airport is not my most favorite place to visit, but it is necessary to be able board my flight to my next destination. At least for now until I get my private jet! I love the idea of traveling, but I dislike having to go through TSA check point. "Shoes off, remove your belt, put all phones and laptops on the conveyor belt!! Go through the detector and spread 'em!!" But the detector keeps going off. "What else do you want me to do TSA officer, strip down? God forbid!- Let me just tell you, it's going to keep going off because I'm wearing heavy metal.Yes, heavy metal. The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit. You see, TSA officer, these I cannot remove. They are part of my spiritual apparel. I need these for the constant battle against evil.

When Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, He was buried and rose on the third day to ascend into Heaven. He conquered the grave and because of that I we were made overcomers. He equipped us with this armor that we may remain victorious overcomers. In Ephesians 6:10-17 Apostle Paul observed the protective armor of the Roman soldiers who guarded him while a prisoner in Rome. He used it to explain to Believers how they can defend themselves against the constant vicous attacks of our adversary.

The Belt of Truth
The belt of the Roman soldier was pertinent in keeping the other pieces of armor in place. As believers the belt of truth keeps our spiritual armor in place. The "truth" is the Word of God. The truth about us is in the Word. Before God formed you in your mothers womb, He knew you and the plans for your life (Jeremiah 1:5).That is the truth. The truth also is the devil is deceptive and the Word says he is the "father of lies" (John 8:44). He will come and tell you there's no future for you but that is a lie.

The Breastplate of Righteousness
The breastplate covered the heart and vital organs of the soldier. One of the major vital organs we have is the heart. The Bible tells us to guard our heart for out of it flows the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). In order to guard our hearts there must be  repentance that grants forgiveness of sins. This allows us to live righteously, doing what is right in the sight of God. Living righteously by being conscious of what we expose ourselves to. Being conscious of what and how we speak. "My tongue shall speak of Your Word..." (Psalms 119:172). Living in obedience to God's Word as God Himself puts on righteousness as a breastplate ( Isaiah 59:17).

Shoes of Peace
The shoes of the Roman soldier were described as having layers of metal and leather with spikes that would dig into the ground and provide stability for the soldier. Our shoes of peace will allow us to take an unmovable stance against our opponent the devil. If we don't stand for something, we will fall for everything. The layers of our shoes  of peace ought to be love, joy, peace, gentleness, patience, goodness, faith, self-control and meekness (Galatians 5:22-23). With these we will be balanced and stable with integrity and good moral standards. Spiritual footwear.

The Shield of Faith
The shield of the soldier was made of lightweight metal but tough and durable. It repelled fiery darts and arrows to the enemy. Faith is our protection plan. It is our assurance that God exists and our faith pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). Your unwavering faith makes it difficult for arrows of doubt, fear and disbelief to penetrate.

The Helmet of Salvation
The helmet of the Roman soldier deflected blows to the head. The helmet of salvation protects our minds. We are advised to be transformed by the renewing of our mind in Romans 12:2. The mind is a critical part of the body. What we think, what we feel, what we hear and see must balance with the Word, otherwise there will be despair and discouragement. Hope can be lost and discomfort can set in.

The Sword of the Spirit
The soldiers sword is fierce, sharp and deadly. Does it remind you of two things? The Word and the tongue! What a bold combination. "The Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow and able to judge the thoughts and intents of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12) "Life and death resides in the power of the tongue...." (Proverbs 18:21) What's the combination all about? What you speak determines what you get. If you speak the Word in faith, it operates as a terrifying weapon against the kingdom of darkness. Effective and effectual prayer is composed of the Word and the use of the tongue. The sword of the spirit is the tool that makes all parts of the armor more effective. It is our offensive weapon. It is what we use to fight back against the enemy. "It is written", followed by a scripture should readily flow from our tongue when the enemy brings its troubles and wages war.

To be a victorious soldier, we need our defensive and offensive tools on at all times so that we are protected and ready to fight anytime the enemy comes.

"Can I go?, My flight to Fiji Islands is now boarding!"
